Something not working as expected? Find the tool, find the symptom, and try the fix. Most problems have a quick answer.
Image Upscaler
The first upscale is very slow
Common causes
- The AI model is downloaded and prepared on first use
- The browser tab was switched away right after clicking
What to do
Wait for the first job to finish; later jobs are much faster. Stay on the tab for a second after clicking Upscale Image, because processing starts on the next screen refresh.
The success message doesn't mention AI (classic engine used)
Common causes
- You're on a phone or tablet
- The photo is larger than about 10 megapixels
- WebGL isn't available in this browser
What to do
Use a desktop or laptop browser for small or old photos. Large photos rarely need upscaling; check the size you actually need first.
The result says it was auto-limited to fit your device memory
Common causes
- The target size was more than your computer could hold in memory
What to do
Choose 2x instead of 4x, or crop the photo first so there are fewer pixels to enlarge.
Edges have bright halos or the photo looks plastic
Common causes
- Sharpness set too high
- Too much denoise without detail recovery
What to do
Reset all sliders to zero and run again. Add Denoise first for grainy photos, then a little Detail Recovery, and only then Sharpness.
The downloaded file is huge
Common causes
- PNG was chosen for a photo
What to do
Download as WebP or JPG. If you need an exact size for a form, run the result through the image compressor.
Image Cropper
The crop is smaller than the form requires
Common causes
- The original photo is small
- The crop frame covers only a small part of the photo
What to do
Watch the Selection readout while cropping and make the frame larger. If the crop is still too small, enlarge it afterwards with the image upscaler.
My passport photo was rejected
Common causes
- Head too small or too large in the frame
- Wrong ratio for the country
- Background or lighting problems
What to do
Check your country's size and head height in the passport photo size guide, use the matching preset or custom ratio, and retake the photo against a plain light wall if needed.
A transparent PNG got a white background
Common causes
- It was exported as JPG
What to do
Choose PNG or WebP as the export format to keep transparency.
The photo appears sideways
Common causes
- The photo was stored sideways with a rotation tag
What to do
Use the rotate buttons to turn it in 90-degree steps before cropping.
Image Compressor
The upload form still says the file is too big
Common causes
- The form counts 1 KB as 1000 bytes
- The form also limits pixel dimensions
What to do
Type a target a few KB below the limit (97 for a 100 KB limit). If the form also has a dimension limit, enter a width as well.
The compressed photo looks blurry or blocky
Common causes
- The target is very small for a large, detailed photo
What to do
Enter a smaller width so the tool can keep a higher quality, or choose WebP, which looks better than JPG at the same size.
The file is too small for a minimum size
Common causes
- Some forms require a minimum file size, for example 20 KB
What to do
Use Quality mode with a higher quality, or a larger width, until the estimate is above the minimum. The 20 KB guide covers this case.
A transparent background turned white
Common causes
- JPG was chosen
What to do
Choose WebP or PNG to keep transparency.
Background Remover
The model download fails or stops
Common causes
- Unstable connection
- Browser storage is full or blocked
- A network filter blocks huggingface.co or cdn.jsdelivr.net
What to do
Reload the page on a stable connection. Allow site data for this site, free up browser storage, or try another network.
It removed the wrong thing
Common causes
- Something else in the photo is more eye-catching than the subject
- The subject has low contrast against the background
What to do
Crop closer to the subject and run it again. In our tests, cropping fixed a case where bright leaves were kept and a grey cat was removed.
There's a light or dark fringe around the edges
Common causes
- Edge pixels still carry a little of the old background colour
What to do
Place the cut-out on a background of similar brightness, or start from a photo taken against a lighter, contrasting background.
It's slow
Common causes
- WebGPU isn't available, so the processor is used
What to do
Use a current version of Chrome or Edge on a computer, where WebGPU is usually available. On the processor, about ten seconds per photo is normal.
Metadata Remover
It says no metadata was found
Common causes
- The photo was already cleaned, for example by a messaging app or social network
- It's a screenshot or an image saved from a website
What to do
Nothing to remove. If you expected location data, check the original file from your camera roll instead of a shared copy.
The cleaned photo appears sideways
Common causes
- Keep photo rotation was switched off
What to do
Run the original again with Keep photo rotation on.
Colours look slightly different
Common causes
- Keep color profile was switched off
What to do
Run the original again with Keep color profile on.
Format not supported
Common causes
- The file is HEIC, RAW or another format
What to do
Convert it to JPG first (on iPhone, sharing a photo usually converts it), then clean the JPG.
QR Generator
My QR code won't scan
Common causes
- Low contrast or inverted colours
- Printed too small
- A logo covers too much of it
What to do
Use a dark code on a light background, print it at least 2 × 2 cm (larger for distant scanning), keep the quiet margin around it, and choose High error correction if you add a logo.
The Wi-Fi code doesn't connect
Common causes
- Network name or password typed differently from the router
- Wrong security type
- The password changed
What to do
Copy the name and password exactly, choose WPA/WPA2 for almost all networks, test with your own phone, and make a new code whenever the password changes.
The printed code looks blurry
Common causes
- A small PNG was enlarged for print
What to do
Download the SVG for printing, or the PNG at 2048 pixels.
